The Basics
What is Tobacco
Tobacco actually starts out as a green, leafy plant that grows in warm climates. Once it is picked it is dried and ground up into multiple products such as cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco, and chewing tobacco. Tobacco smoke is known to contain over 7,000 chemicals.
The most well-known ingredient is the highly addictive stimulant known as nicotine. Since our brains have natural receptors for this chemical, people become very dependent on tobacco products. Currently smoking is the leading PREVENTABLE cause of death in the United States. In addition, nearly 9 out of 10 lung cancers are caused by smoking.
